The Lifts Regulations 2016 implements (EU Lift Directive 2014/33/EU)

The directive 2014/33/EU creates a common Standard of Safety to which all new lifts manufactured within the EU conform and be enforceable by law in each of the EU member countries. The benefit of which is to enable the free trade of approved new lifts and related components within the EU as they all meet the same safety requirements. The directive was enacted by the European Council on 24th February 2014, the official UK version is “The Lifts Regulations 2016”. The latest implementation date was 8th December 2016 which replaced the “Lifts Regulations 1997” which applied to products that were placed on the market before this date.

Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union on 29 March 2017 began the process of exit. Until exit negotiations are concluded, the UK remains a full member of the European Union and all the rights and obligations of EU membership remain in force.

Cardiff Lift Company always complies with the European Lift Directive 2014/33/EU for new lifts in new buildings and installs Lifts compliant with EN81-20 implemented on 1st September 2017 , however for lift replacement in existing buildings where restrictions are present, CLC with a derogation prior to commencing any works from the BEIS, we can where appropriate compliant to EN81-21 modify our lift designs and other deviations with an agreed Modified Design certificate from our appointed notified body Bureau Veritas. to meet alternative comparable safety as required by the Lifts Directive 2014/33/EU.

All New Lift Regulation compliant installations anywhere in the EU after 1st July 1999 must have clearly visible within the lift car, a plate bearing the CE mark and the lift installers Notified Bodies BSI License Number.

NOTE (The Lifts Regulations 2016 is up to date with all changes known to be in force on or before 28 May 2020. There are changes that may be brought into force at a future date).
